Healthy Food The excuses for not eating healthily are easy Im too busy. I dont live near a grocery store. I cant afford healthy food. I dont know how to cook. Healthy food, weve often heard, is pricey food. Fruits and vegetables -- theyre expensive! We cant afford to eat that way! Thats why we dont do it! Previous studies have shown eating junk food is cheaper than eating healthy food. However, the USDA now says that is not necessarily the case. Contrary to popular belief, many healthy foods are no more expensive than junk food, according to a large new government analysis. The Windsor Essex County Health Unit board unanimously passed a motion to petition the premier to implement a monthly $100 healthy food supplement. Grabbing a burger and a doughnut may seem cheaper than downing a daily dose of fruits and vegetables, but that may not always be true. Contrary to popular belief, it can actually cost more to eat badly. In fact, a new government report finds that nutritious foods such as grains, vegetables, fruit and dairy typically cost less than items high in saturated fat and added sugars. |
